Hi. I wonder if anyone can help me. I am currently using CS 2 on my Dell computer. I have had my computer sice March and Photoshop used to load in about 10 minutes. It now takes 1 hour which isn’t funny (especially if it crashes and then I need to restart it).

It always seems to get stuck on the reading gradients section but I’m not sure what these are.

All my PSD files are saves to a Lacie drive which is never plugged in when starting photoshop so I know it is not reading the files.

Can anyone suggest something I can do to quicken up loading speed?

I’m not sure if this is the right information but my computer is a DXP051, Intel (R) Pentium (R) D CPU 3.00 GHz, 2.99 GHz, 100 GB of Ram.
Thanks.

That may very well be the problem.

If PS is trying to access something on that drive it will take a long time till it gives up.

Another thing to check is to make sure that your default printer is a local printer.

Other than that, we’d need to see you system specs.

Ten minutes is incredibly slow – an hour is out of the question!

Mine takes 17 seconds from cold and 9 seconds to restart after closing down normally.

As Bob says, yours will be looking for the files on the LaCie which appear on the "Open Recent…" list.

And possibly, a network printer.

You may also have too many fonts and plug-ins installed; some of them possibly corrupt.

Do you find your preferences are often reset to default for no reason?

Another cause of problems can be over-protective "security" software.

Hi Heather,

I’m not sure if this is the answer for you, but take a look at this:

I know this helped me when I had a similar problem.

I just wanted to say thanks for everyone who helped me.
In the end it took a very nice man from the Adobe technical assistance to sort out the problem. It was very similar to what Michael wrote above but I had to remove all the preferences.

My Photoshop is now loading in about 10 seconds which is amazing.
