I have Photoshop CS2 in my PC. While I can work fine with the mouse, when I try to use the keyboard, Photoshop does not respond: ctrl-o, ctrl-n, and so on. Also, if I try to use the Type tool, whatever I write comes out from right to left. If I switch applications, for example, Outlook or IE, the keyboard works fine. What could be wrong?
Thank you.

I assume it works in other applicatons? If so, delete your preference files as per the help files. Hold down the control, shift and alt keys whilst starting PS. If you get the timing right, you will be asked if you want to delete the file, you do.

Have you changed or added any new hardware or software recently? If not, and everything is as it was when it was working. Then you could try:
Open PS go to Edit>Keyboard Shortcuts
Make sure it is set to Photoshop defaults

Good luck,

Thank you for quick response. I started Photoshop pressing control-alt-shift and it asked about the preferences which I ok’d, but it still will not accept commands from the keyboard.

Thank you for your response. No recent changes and shortcuts are set to Photoshop defaults.
It’s baffling.

What language is your keyboard set to? Go to, Control Panel>Regional and Language Options>Languages>Details and make sure you KB is set to the correct language.

Yes it is.

You need to know if it is hardware or software. It sounds like neither but must be one or the other. My guess is that it is software but if you have another keyboard to try it would be easiest to rule out hardware – lost keys are usually found under the lamppost. If it really is software then it is probably either a problem with the operating system or a problem with the application. In either case the problem is probably going to be configuration or corruption. Deleting preferences deals with most corruption and configuration problems associated with Photoshop.

What version operating system are you using?

Ron:

I tried deleting preferences but it still continues to ignore my keyboard. I’m using XP Home. And no other program seems to have problems with the keyboard.

I suppose I will have to reinstall Photoshop and hope for the best.

Thank you all.

Furthermore, when I delete preferences, via control-shift-alt, then a message window pops up saying that "A required application library failed to load and the product cannot continue. Please reinstall the application." And yet another one says: The application or DLL C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Tw10122.dat is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."
