I am losing my desk top, start bridge, color settings on shutdown. I use Windows xp and shutdown from the bottom of the desk top. When I re start Windows and then re start CS2, some of these settings have returned to default and some have not. I haven’t tried but am I supposed to exit CS2 before shutting the computer down? thanks jc

Yes!

It is a well known fact that applications should be closed before shutting down Windows.

Yes. Photoshop saves your preferences when you close it. If you are shutting down without closing photoshop first, you will experience just what you are reporting.

Thanks all. I have been letting Windows close all of my programs and have not experienced any re start problems except with CS2. Its not a big thing, just another step to slow things down a little. jc

Letting windows "close all of your applications" is a dangerous practice.
