PS CS2 Error Message

I loaded Photoshop CS2 on to my Windows XP PC today and get the following Error Message whenever I open CS2:

"Photoshop.exe – Unable To Locate Component

This application has failed to start because P0230bGr.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

I have tried reinstalling CS2 but the problem just re-occurs and the strangest thing is that if I just click the ‘OK’ button provided within the Erro Message window, I am still taken into the CS2 system proper – so whatever this error message is referring to it doesn’t appear to stop CS2 loading successfully.

Any advice / solutions greatly appreciated.

This dll probably belongs to a plugin that PS sees at startup, but which is missing.

If that is the case, reinstall that plugin, or remove it completely.

Thanks Rob but I am not that knowledgeable on the technical aspects of software.

How would I go about removing completely a .dll file that I am being told cannot be found when Photoshop CS2 is opened?

Equally, if the problem is that this .dll file isn’t present on my PC – where do I gain access to this .dll file plug-in in order to attempt a re-install?

I did a search on the dll filename, and it may be that the dll is required for Creative PC-CAM 750 software. Do you have anything like that installed? Or have recently removed something like that?

Hi Klaas,

Yes, that is a piece of hardware I have previously used and subsequently removed. What do I need to do to rectify the matter – should I reinstall the PC-CAM750 software?

Is not having that dll present on the PC in anyway detrimental to PS CS2?

Thanks for you help on this.

I’d say that installing the PC-CAM750 software installed a plug in into Photoshop, and the de-installation removed the dll, but didn’t take out the PS CS2 plug-in.

I’d start by checking for the relevant plug-in in

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Plug-Ins

and removing the appropriate file (although it may not be that easy to identify).

If that doesn’t work, I’d ask around the Creative forums.

I’ve viewed the location you provided but don’t truly understand what it is I am actually looking for and I am still confused by why I need to be deleting something.

My error message states that a file cannot be found so surely that means I need to be add the file (i.e. P0230bGr.dll) to my system rather than delete a file from the location you detailed in your last response.

Doesn’t it?

Sorry if I am being thick with all of this, but I just want CS2 to open without any error messages being incurred.

When you first installed the PC-CAM software, it would have installed a number of files, including a Photoshop plug-in (which is a file that tells Photoshop where all the plug-in related files are located).

When you removed the PC-CAM software, it removed all of it’s own files, including the DLL in question, but did not remove the plug-in file.

Thus when Photoshop starts, it sees that there is a plug-in for PC-CAM, goes to load the files, but can’t find them, hence the error message.

To get rid of the error message, you need to remove the plug-in file, or re-install the PC-CAM software.
