Hey all,
Currently, pressing ‘alt+[‘ or ‘alt+]’ cycles through your layers and selects the next/previous layer as the active layer. It’s the same as clicking on a layer that you are NOT on to make it active.
I’d really, REALLY like to turn this off (it’s getting in the way of my normal use). I’ve dug around in the menu shortcuts but it seems this function is "hidden" from editing it’s keyboard shortcut.
Can anyone help me turn this off, or at least change the hotkey assignment? It’s driving me nuts!!! 😛
I’m thinking of trying to make an empty action that’s activated by the key combo, but that might not solve it.
Any help or info would be immensely appreciated.
Cheers,
Joe

No help?
I’ve learned I can’t make an action actived by the alt key, even if I could I doubt it would override the layer palette command.
I’ve also found the layer key palette key command listed in the help section, but no info as to how to change it!! In the help section, it’s under "keys for using the Layers Palette" and it’s listed as ‘Select next layer down/up’ and has alt + [ or ].
How do I turn this thing off?! 🙁
Thanks.

Why? Don’t tell me you are hitting that combo by mistake? What are the odds?

No help?

Because either no one knows how, or you cannot turn it off. I’m with Ed though, why in the world…?

You can hack/remap your keyboard to disable those keys altogether, but that would affect other applications.

I’ll tell you why 😛 I’m an illustrator, and I paint in PS all day. The way I work is I leave opacity sensitivity in the brush, to respond to the pen. So I use the keyboard to pick colors and change brush size as I’m working. Those keys are alt and [ ] for brush size… and I work rather quickly.
Therefore, I’m always hitting alt+[ or ] and changing layers by accident. Not a good thing in the middle of a piece.
Thanks for the help Ed. It just occured to me also to change the eye dropper key to something else, duh!! Have to re-teach my hand to go to it tho…
Hope that explains it hehe…

Well, I don’t know. I’m an illustrator too and I used to work all day in Photoshop and I have never had that problem. Maybe you are going too fast.
