I just received a neat tutorial on how to enhance text with open fonts. However my Open font option in character type is greyed out. Are only certain fonts adaptable to a " swash option?"

I would love to have some fonts adaptable to these options, but I checked the Adober site and the price is too much for me. I am not a professional.

Does anyone know if there is a download sitew where I can purchase some of these open type fonts at a more reasonable price?
Thanks
Tina

Some OpenType fonts are as low as $29.00 per font. Also check www.font.com, www.p22.com, etc.

Also if you purchase Classroom in a book, several OpenType fonts are included on the CD.

But it’s quite important to note that not every opentype font has every feature.

The king of swatch options, IMO, is Poetica, and it only costs $29 from Adobe. Take a look at it here

In the bottom right of this page is a little box that shows which features are available in a particular font.

thanks everybody: I have classroom in a book but I never checked the CD!! I cannot believe it! I just find it hard to believe that a font is $35.00 from Adobe. I guess it is acceptable if anyone is using the program for business purposes.

Thanks again for all the help

If you are a student you can also order "Type Classics for Learning" which will give you some really nice fonts (a few odd ones too…Ouch and Copal being the biggest offenders…and it’s only $95.00…check out www.rteksystems.com or www.journeyed.com

Have you ever tried to make a font? If you do it with the level of quality that Adobe takes, it will take you several months, full time work. More for one like Poetica.

Why on earth would you expect that it should cost less?

Probably due to the proliferation of free fonts all over the web and the "10,000 fonts for $9.99" CDs in the bin in front of the check out line in CompUSA.

Yeah…

but try to get them to rip properly on an image/platesetter if you don’t create outlines or rasterize the font…

All of a sudden $29.00 looks cheap when you are in that situation

I would recommend the free fonts included with Corel products (several thousand). They are all from reputable vendors, often old versions. No problems so far.

The Corel fonts are definitely quality fonts. Many from Bitstream.

I think the X3 suite has OpenType versions of all fonts. I’m considering the upgrade from 11 for that alone.
