Does Photoshop keep logs?

As far as I know, photoshop does not keep any sort of log in photoshop files..

i.e say I had a high resolusion photo. I spend hours editing and tweaking it to perfection, adding various filters. I save as a small image, about 20% of the size of the original, and forget to save a high resolusion version (silly, i know).
Later on, I find out I need a high resolusion version of my image. It would take hours to start this task again, and I may never get the exact same results.
Is there any way to find out exactly what filters, and adjustments I made to each layer, so I can quickly do the same routine in the original, higher resolusion photo. [Or even better, if I could just copy all the properties and filters etc of a layer, and paste it in another, and it will do everything for me.. but I’m sure that is asking for too much.]

This would save alot of time and would be very very helpful. I don’t want to have to record an action everytime i make a photoshop file.

I have photoshop 7.0. Maybe the latest version has logs…?

any help, much appreciated.

Thanks Daniel

As you know, PS does keep a history of states and you can set it to the number of steps it retains, and then ‘step backwards’ or paint with the history brush, and even revert to the last saved image, however I don’t know how you would save the history without also having to synchronize/save the image at the same time.

The better thing to do might be to remember to SAVE AS periodically using an intelligent naming convention in order to keep versions. There used to be some aftermarket programs that forced saves in that manner. Haven’t seen them for some time, but you might check.

Photoshop does keep a log of sorts. It is under File>File Info… Under the Preferences>General Preferences you can enable the Log and to what extent/detail you want to keep the log.

This log is savable with each image file.

You will need to upgrade to Photoshop CS for detailed logging that can be saved in the file as metadata or as a text file. PS7 or less doesn’t have it.
