How can I extract an object and the save it to add to another, non-adobe [programme so that has no white background, but is bounded only by the edges of the object I extracted?

ot , alternatively, can I make this background area transparent and not compromise the ibject I want to show?

The answer depends upon what file formats your ‘other program’ accepts.

The only file formats that it is likely to support that support transparency are .psd, layered TIFFS .png and .gif

As to how to extract, you need to read up on Selections.
