I’m going back and forth on whether to buy CS2. Can someone tell me . . .

1) Would I be able to do non-auto fixes (e.g. brightness/contrast) in a batch process? I’m looking at having to making identical adjustments to 77 photos.

2) Does the downloader allow for selection of a few photos only, directed to a specific folder, and ordered in a sequence which starts from the earliest shot taken? (The PSE 4 I have now reverses the order/numbering the photos which is a major problem for me.)

2. The purchase price on this product online runs an incredible range. Is it risky to buy this software at near half-price?

Yes. But be aware that there are several options for buying.

1. Upgrade from earlier version.
2. As part of the Creative Suite
3. Full version.
4. Academic versions of the above

Be aware of "OEM" versions. Adobe doesn’t distribute OEM version of Photoshop anymore and haven’t for quite a few years.

Also watch out for download only sites that tell you that you’re not eligible for direct support.

The academic version is less than half the full price, but you need to qualify.

1. Yes, you’d record your settings and then apply them to the herd. There are several methods to do this.
2. There is no "downloader" to pull files off a camera unless your computer’s operating system allows you to mount the camera as a storage device. You’ll have to pull them off the camera using the manufacturer’s software or use a disk reader. Once they’re on your hard drive, you can order them any way you want. For instance, Windows Explorer allows you to order them by file creation time, which is what you’re asking for.
3. Before purchasing, you may want to download the 30-day trial version and/or the eval of Photoshop Elements, a lighter weight version that’s also much cheaper. Others have covered the purchasing options though, so I’ll not repeat them.

1: Yes. With RAW files in Adobe Camera Raw.

2: Always risky to "download" direct from a camera. Use a card reader and copy all the files to a folder on your hard disk. Then back them ALL up. Then copy the files you want to a "work-in-progress" folder and Rename/Renumber/work on them, from there.

3: If a deal looks "to good to be true" you can bet the safety of your credit card number that it is!.

another forum regular here (yrbkmgr) considers this a bug and is his "biggest" gripe (bug?) with cs2 after going from v7 to cs2 (v9). so no, i don’t think that’s ‘fixed’ in cs2, i believe it behaves the same way you describe.
