Hi there,
Im a bit confused about feather, it differs if I use different methods,

1. if I want apply feather to object that is already made, there is some problems. I select the space around object, then specify the amount of feather (select/feather), and delete a selected area with feather. But the result is not so good if you are applying feather to selection before you select any area. I see a lot of advantages using this method, the only thing that bothers e is the result!

2. Applying feather to selection before you select any area is ok, just specify the amount pixels you want to be feathered and its work out quite good.

Check out the results I got using the same feather – < http://www.erfoto.lv/index.php?module=My_eGallery&do=sho wpic&pid=60203&author=&gallery=28&bool=& q=&new=&rateval=&voteval=&orderby=dateD>

Why it is so?

It’s like that because the feathering affects the selection, not the object.

You may want to look at applying a gaussian blur to already created objects instead

Sorry, but Im new user, can you tell me the best way of making nice blured edges of already created objects? I want to use for that not more than 3 or for pixels to make blend from a textured object to white background.

I already did: apply a Gaussian blur

Ohhhh!!!!
Now I got it, I should apply blur on a selection instead of deleting it! Right?

But is there a way doing it thought layer mask?

A layer mask can be GB’ed.

Alt+click on the layer mask and any tricks, techniques or twiddles can be applied to the mask. Differential effects depend upon the shade of grey. black or white used in the mask.

I try out the gaussian blur, but it worked out just as the first described example! There still is a very good, hard edge visible. Ok, it is a little bit blured, but I still have that edge!

The problem is that the feather straddles the edge. You need to have it only on the inside.

To do this, enter Quick Mask mode. Then run Levels (on the Quick Mask channel), and enter 127 in the Shadows value, and click "OK". Return to Standard mode, and then Delete as you did before.

Somewhat better results can be obtained by using Curves instead of Levels. Use a curve like this

The extra flatness in the "toe" gives a better transition at the edge, and you can vary the Input value of the leftmost node (Keeping the Oupput value of zero) to fine-tune the smoothness of the transition.

One thing about this method is that, since you’re essentially throwing away half of the feather, you want to start with a feather value of twice what you want the final to be.

Don’t select, or make your selection significantly larger

Gaussian Blur is fine for solid shapes, but if there’s any pattern or image, you’re going to blur the content.

the Same technique I described can be used on a mask, as deebs mentioned
