This error message has suddenly started to appear when I start Photoshop 7.0.1 When I click OK, Photoshop will not do anything – it won’t open a file or talk to my scanner or anything. It just hangs up. Restarting Windows XP doesn’t help, reinstalling Photoshop doesn’t help, and the solutions shown in the Adobe support item when I searched on "UI font" for a similar sympton do not help. The ADMUI3.fon file refrerred to in the support item is present as required. No new fonts have been added as far as I can tell and there is plenty of main and disk memory on the computer. No other applications are running. Does anyone have any ideas on this problem?

Have you tried…

Deleting the adobefnt*.LST files?

Resetting your preferences (prodecure is in the FAQs)?

This issue does seem to turn up every now and then but I can’t remember a definite answer. I’ll pop off to the search and see what I can find for you!

Do any of these threads help?

Thomas Madsen "Missing UI Font" 6/5/03 8:24am </cgi-bin/webx?13/0>

Looks like it also might be due to having lots of fonts installed. How many fonts have you got on your system?

How many fonts do you have active on that machine? If the answer is "hundreds" or "thousands" then that is the most likely cause. Cut the number of active fonts down to < 150 (and Roman, Bold Italic and Bold Italic count as 4 fonts)
