Is anybody using this 24" 1920×1200 display for Photoshop editing of digital camera output? What’s your opinion on color accuracy?

I have the 2405. It’s calibrated using an EyeOne and I love it.

Dell has a 21 day money back policy.

I know Bob is a fan of the Dell monitors and I’m not disagreeing with him in the least, but before you buy a 2407WFP I do recommend you visit the Dell community forums for their monitors and see what the latest comments are on the 2407WFP. It has been a while, but I do remember reading somewhere that the 2407 actually seems to be a bit inferior to the 2405, but I don’t recall in what regard.

Problems with the 2407 included banding which, the last I looked, was reportedly corrected by firmware version A03. So, if you go for the 2407, make certain you get at least that version. The problem I had that resulted in returning the monitor was that the display would blank within 0.5-2 seconds of being powered on, as if in a permanent power save mode. Dell offered to replace it but I turned them down, thinking that such a problem should not have escaped quality checks in the first place, and given the other problems I’d read about, I didn’t want to go through a trial and error approach to getting a good monitor.

Of course, in the end I still did that: I bought a BenQ FP2401W that was getting very positive reviews and seemed to indicate they were starting to produce a higher-end product than I’d known them for. I heard, but this is rumour, that BenQ is the builder of the 2407WFP. Overall the build quality of both units looked quite solid to me, but the Dell has more bells & whistles (3 vs. 4 USB ports and an integrated media card reader) for a lower price. Still, I went with the BenQ through NewEgg and am very pleased with the image quality. Although calibrated now, I have yet to do any Photoshop work to report results on. I can tell you that a 6500°K white point was very near the midpoint RGB setting of the monitor, and I only had to tweak it to 49/50/50 to achieve a reading within 8° of 6500°K, per my OptixXR colorimeter. I have high hopes for it but have just been too busy to put it to the test yet.

Well, there’s nothing perfect and as I said, I do have the 2405.

As for the banding, I thought I had read about that in the 2007, but I suppose it could have been the 2407s also. I have a 2007 as my second monitor and it has no banding issues at all.

But I should point out that Dell does provide a 3 year warranty which is something you should take into consideration.

I point this out because I did have an issue with a 2005 and with no questions asked I had a 2007 shipped to me the next day under the warranty.

I understand the 2407 is quite bright. Are there any issues reducing the luminance to approximately 120/140 nits; which I believe my Getagmacbeth calibrator recommends?

I have the 2405, and to be honest the color sucked until I calibrated it with my Spyder II Pro. Now what I see on the screen is what I get printed.
