What does the circle with an x in it mean when using the line tool? My line tool seems to be locked on an axis, how can i change this? I have never used a forum before and forgot to put the software and operating sys. I’m using Photo shop cs2 on a windows XP.

I think that you may want to use the pen tool instead of the line tool…the line tool is very literal…it just draws straight lines. The pen tool lets you draw paths with both sharp (90 degree) and smooth (click and drag to bring out bezier handles)

In the tool bar for the line tool, you are most likely using the paths setting. The 3 grouped icons on the tool bar next to the line tool, pick the first button of the 3. You probably have the second button clicked.

The circled x at 5 o’clock relative to the crosshairs tells you the line tool is being used in "paths" mode. This and two alternative modes are selectable near the left end of the options bar when the line tool is active.
