I am writing a proposal to my supervisor to upgrade to PS 8 when it comes out. I currently have 6.0. When did 6.0 come out, and when did 7.0 come out?

Also can you list the advantages of upgrading. I know the majority, just want to make sure I don’t miss any.

Ok, how about advantages from 6.0 to 7.0?

Depends on your perspective. Nothing enough to make me want to change from 6. Hopefully 8 will add the nested layers and filter adjustment layers that were missing from 7.

And the RAW plug-in will be freeola.

7.0 shipped in April 2002
6.0 shipped in October of 2000

April 2002 + 18 mos. = Oct of 2003 for 8.0

8.0.1 update will be out by Dec 2003

Thanks for the correction Dave, I was counting on my fingers and trying to hold a can of pop at the same time. Very tricky.

Many people view the feature improvement from 6 to 7 as a yawn. Personally, the healing brush and patch tool alone justify the upgrade because of the work that I do.

Adding the file browser also wasn’t viewed by many as that big a deal but it IS a productivity boon for me since you can run batch operations against the files selected in the file browser.

The workspaces feature is very convenient when we have more than one person on a particular machine performing editing tasks, since they can layout their pallets to maximize their own personal productivity and save those settings.

For the creative types, I imagine that the new, revamped brush engine has a lot of potential, but personally, I only use round brushes, so for me, <shrug> no big deal.

That’s my two cents anyhow..

Peace,
Tony
