Out of the blue I am having a problem saving files with PhotoshopCS, when I work on a jpeg file when I save it as it was a jpeg when I go back to the saved file it no longer is listed as a jpeg under it’s properties and the file type is listed as a "1 File", 2 File or "3 File" the number changes with the order as it is worked on in PS CS.. Why isn’t saving it as it always did as a jpeg? I do rename it not to change the original pic and tell it to save it in the format of "JPEG (*.jpg;*JPEG;*JPE)" as I always do but when I try to open the changed file with any other program it is not seen as a JPEG but as a "3 File"….

Paul,

Install anything new in the interim?
Are you using TweakUI?
Have you tried deleting the "prefs" file as per the help files? Start PS whilst holding down the control, shift and alt keys, if you get it right you will be aked if you want to delete the file, you do.

Mike, Thank You for replying! As for my problem, I do not use Tweak UI and I haven’t installed anything new, I did delete "prefs" file as you said and worked on a new file and again after saving it as a JPEG when I go back to that picture and check it’s Type of File in it’s properties it says it’s a "1 File"…Any other suggestions?

Found something!! I just worked on a file and found that when I saved it with a Letter instead of using my usual numeral change (Ususally if I work on jpeg I save the finish file with the same name as the original except I add a number, example Treepic I would save the worked on file as Treepic1, if worked on again I would save it as Treepic1.1), when I just worked on a file (Xmaspic) I saved it as XmaspicA where I usually would save the finished file as Xmaspic1.. I still would love to save pics with numerals, still open to any ideas why all of sudden it won’t save it as I would like??

Paul,

You have a weird one, you should be able to save with either letters or numbers. I have seen this happen when saving text files for example, when the renaming process removes the .txt extension. I’ve never seen this with PS.
You say you deleted the prefs file, did you get the dialogue box asking if you wanted to do this?

Paul,

Check the following;

Run from the start menu. Type in regedit and press enter. Look for this path and if it is present, do as follows:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Policies\comdlg32\NoFileMru change to 0 from 1

This is switch is known to cause the problems you are seeing, but why it only shows itself when using numerals and not letters is anybodies guess.

Mike Thanks You for replying and trying to help me.. much appreciated!!
1."You say you deleted the prefs file, did you get the dialogue box asking
if
you wanted to do this?"
Yes I did and PS went back to before when I first installed it, my toolbars changes and such..

2. In regedit, when I get to "Policies" the only folder in there is "Explorer".. No "comdlg32\NoFileMru" ??
