Is Photoshop forgetting how to play back recorded actions?

With the fear of my Mac crashing for the fourth time today, I need to make this as short as possible.

My problem is recording complex actions that involve selecting, copying and then pasting images. This creates a new layer and then positioning that layer.

When I’m done recording and play back the actions, everything works perfectly. But when I work in Photoshop after a period of time and play back the same action days or weeks later, Photoshop acts like it forgot where to put the layers.

Has this happened to anyone else? I sell a complete line of these actions and can seem to find anything similar.

Thanks in advance!

With the fear of my Mac crashing

If you are running on Mac, you may want to post in this forum: <http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?13@@.ee6b362>

And without knowing exactly what the action does, ie how it positions the layers, etc… it’s hard to say where the problem is.

Thanks Cybernetic

I don’t think the problem is in the actions. I could be wrong. It seems like its more of a scratch disc or memory error.

Im getting no complaints from my customers, but that doesn’t mean its not causing problems..they are Windows users so I posted here first:)

I’ve posted a webpage on my website that illustrates whats going on. This may go against forum rules, but to solve this problem, I’d gladly offer a reward to solve this ongoing problem. Monetary or otherwise, it doesn’t matter.

I’ve also posted in the CS3 beta forum to be proactive. The madness needs to stop!

Thanks to all:)

Did alot of testing over the holliday. In Photoshop CS2, and CS3.

I run Mac OSX 10.4.8 on a dual 2gig G5, and don’t have access to a windows machine, however, here are my findings.

Software is run in default prefs, psd’s updated.

When I installed PS CS2, my actions for DVD Box designs ran smoothly without problems the first time around. However, when I opened the actions for the Software Box designs, things got screwy.

In CS2, and runing the same actions 3 different times, theres a corner of the box that is being missplaced after a pre-recorded paste command. It’s randomly off by 1/4 to 1/2 an inch. It varies. Other parts of the box are built correctly.

In CS3 beta, this corner is still off, and the wrong brush is selected instead of the one it’s suppose to use to make the box’s surface reflection. This reflection is also off, leaving a white gap between the box and reflection.

In Photoshop 7, pretty much the entire box is fried.

Before I thought the reason why this is happening is because the actions can’t accurately move layers.

Not so from the tests in the three different versions.

All versions have a PASTING problem. They cannot accurately paste in place, or do a regular paste and record the coordinance of the item that was pasted into the layer.

Thanks for reading!

Hum,

Perhaps using the align layers feature to accurately centre the pasted items before doing anything else would prove to be a solution?
