Photoshop 6 and Brushes (.abr files)

I’m using Photoshop 6 and whenever I try to load a brush set with an .abr extension, it keeps saying that the brushes cannot be imported due to them not being compatible with this version.

Is there anyway of converting the brushes so that they work in version 6, or do I have to upgrade?

The brush engine changed, became more complex, starting with version 7 and later versions. This means that earlier version 6 brushes are useable in later versions; that more recent version brushes are not backwards compatible.
