Can someone please give me instructions on how to do this is Photoshop CS? I want to convert a photo to black and white but leave some objects as they stand in their own colour.

Thanks : )

One method is to select the objects you want to keep in color using any combination of selection methods. Then invert the selections so that everything except those parts are selected. Finally, either desaturate or use curves/levels to remove color.

Just to expand on Thomas’s suggestion.

If, after inverting the selection, you add a Hue/Sat Adjustment Layer, the layer mask will be based upon the selection. The advantage of this method is that after desaturating, you can modify the colour/B&W bounderies using the paint brush on the mask.
