I defragged my disk recently and some of my filters are missing. I want to reinstall PS, but it has been purchased online so what do I do to reinstall it without having to revert to the trial version or purchase it again? Do I save the activation folder er…what. Help is appreciated.

A similar thing happened to me. At the direction of the Adobe helpdesk, I went back in and downloaded the trial version. On the screen that ask if you want the trial version or "do you have a key code"…I placed my key code (that was mailed to you when you purchased online) and the install went smoothly. According to the tech I spoke to, the trial version is "full octane" so using your key should put you back up and running or at least it did for me. Ummmm dont know about the filters, but they should be back in when you re-install…

Just dig out the CD you saved it to, and copy the downloaded ZIP file back to your desktop and install it from there.

Erm… you did save the download to a CD didn’t you??

Oh dear! Well never mind. Just download it again and enter the Serial Number.

Erm… you did make a note of the serial number didn’t you??

Hmm. Okaaay. All is not lost. Just log in to your account at Adobe.com and click on registrations. When you registered the software, your serial number will have been saved on file.

Erm… you did register your $650 piece of software didn’t you??

Sorry to sound facetious, but I’ve seen it happen too many times before 🙁

So that’s two New Years Resolutions:

* Back up your downloaded software. (you already back up your valuable images, right?)

* Defrag your hard disks at least every week or so. That way they won’t get so messed up you start losing files. (BTW. keep your disks less than 80% full, otherwise defragging will become difficult if not impossible.)

Best of luck with it all.

Chris.
