I’m not sure how this happened, but I can’t display the Layers palette. I press F7, I select Window > Show Layers, nothing. I do know that the "combined" Layers/Actions/Links window was split into three separate panes, but although I can display the other two, the Layers pane refuses to show up!

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Andy

It’s possible that it actually is showing up but is way off the Windows desktop…

Try bumping your screen resolution as high as possible, to create as big a desktop and as small as windows as possible and see if it shows up.

I think, but am not 100% sure, that you can also recover the positions by trashing the PS preferences file as detailed in the FAQ.

Well, I gave your answer a little thought, but the thing is, when a window is displayed, then the drop-down menu for that window usually says "Hide xxx". In this case, the menu item always shows "Show Layers," so I don’t think that’s what’s happening here.

I may just have to trash my prefs…

Thanks

Yup, that worked. Weird.

One thing that you may want to try for this sort of problem, before trashing preferences, is to load the default workspace, which should move all the palettes to where they are on a default install.

If this works, it saves you from trashing preferences, which, unless you have a backup file, may take you a while to go through and reset.

It’s a good idea to save a copy of the .psp file with all your preferences set to your liking. That way you can always revert to this known good file should your Prefes ever become corrupted again.

In fact keep a copy of all settings in the folder

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\9.0\Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings

Well, since I’d already trashed the prefs file, since I needed to access some layers that I just couldn’t get to, I’ll make a note of all this for future reference.

Thanks to you all!

Andy
