Okay, I’ve been having a problem with my Photoshop 7.0 where it’s been closing out while all the preference’s are loading. I’ve gone through a huge ordeal, found on a previous thread (http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bc2d317?@@), to try to solve this problem. Once again, I tried uninstalling, restarting the comp, and installing the program. Once installed I tried to open it and got a message warning the Scratch Volume is the same as something else and can affect performance…could this have anything to do with my problem? And if so, how do I set the Scratch Volume if I can’t get into the program?

Please Help

Probably not. This is a warning. Are you still unable to get in "after" seeing this warning?

Have you deleted your preferences? I know you reinstalled, but this does not reset that file, and it is probably the cause of your problems. The FAQ tells how to do it.

The "Scratch Volume" or Scratch disk, is just an alternative location for working files from PS. Since the history keeps copies of EVERYTHING you do until you merge the image, it uses a lot of space. If you are using you C: drive, each time the program accesses the disk and you make a change that tries writing to the disk, it slows down your system. It is highly recommended you use an extra drive for the scratch. I have used a 1Gb jump drive as my scratch. This is a very cost effective way to provide the scratch without adding another drive to your system.

I can’t get in even after seeing the warning, and of course the warning only showed that one time after re-installing it. I went through a huge ICC file ordeal described in one of the FAQs, which FAQ are you speaking of?

Thank you very much, it’s not fixed! I found the FAQ section you were speaking of

Same answer as they gave in your other thread..

Spelled out just for you… From the FAQ..located at: <http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.ee747eb/>

"Delete your preferences.. To do this:

Hold down Alt, Ctrl, and Shift keys (Mac: Command, Option, Shift) then start Photoshop… Keep them all held down while Photoshop loads until A dialog box appears asking if you wish to delete the preferences file." Click "yes"…

Or, press them all down immediately after clicking to open Photoshop. Keep them all held down while Photoshop loads until A dialog box appears asking if you wish to delete the preferences file. Click "yes"…

A mentor of mine says, "It’s a timing thing".. if you do not see the dialog box asking if you wish to delete the preference files.. then repeat this process till you DO!

If you deleted or moved all those files from the other thread I suggest you put things back the way they were.. but I guess a reinstall would have done that.. a reinstall does not delete the preferences though.. so this procedure may work for your problem if you have reinstalled already
