hi all,

cs 3 boots up in about 3 seconds
cs2 replies in about 10 seconds…

bridge cs2 boots in about 4-5 seconds
bridge cs3 replies practically instantaneously….

my ? is:

Is CS3 a MAJOR upgrade to CS2,
or
is it simply so much ‘smaller’ in size??
(being a free beta and all)

thanxAll.

I’m puzzled by your question since I’m assuming you have installed and tested the CS3 beta to get the timings you cite. Try the new features and decide for yourself if CS3 is worthy of upgrading from CS2.

I think one of the ways Adobe has decreased CS3 boot time is to not load fonts during boot. Instead, fonts are loaded when the type tool is first used.

The boot time Engineer did a good work. I think that you can see him in Jeff Schewe’s visit to Adobe Headquarters at photoshopnews.com

Basically, even if there are not very noticeable changes, each new version is a major upgrade.
