Phooshop loading problem…

Hi there, I was given an old Mirascan scanner and installed the driver etc. Now Photoshop starts loading and gets as far as "initialing color preferences" and then just vanishes,thats as far as it gets. Ive tried uninstalling the scanner, System Restore, reinstalling PS but nothing does it? Can anybody help please? I have XP Home.

try resetting the photoshop prefrences, per the faq.
