When trying to save an image [in Photoshop 7.01] using "Save to Web" from the file menu, I now receive the error message, "Cannot complete this operaton because an assertion has failed." I haven’t changed anything in the installation. I tried reinstalling photoshop [although I didn’t uninstall it first.) but the error message still occurs. :frown:

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I THINK the resolution for this is to reset your S4W options to default. Unfortunately search is down right now so I can’t confirm, but try that…

try this:

Simon Alison "Assertion Error – Save for Web" 6/13/03 4:12am </cgi-bin/webx?14/8>

you can reset the save for web as many times as you run into the assertion error but the real fix has to do with installing an adobe post script printer.

for a long time i puzzled over what was causing the problem until i realized that it’s reoccuring every time i install a windows xp update.

for some reason adobe doesn’t want to admit to the incompatibility with various operating systems so even if you phone their tech support, they go to great lenghts to blame the problem on anything and everything.

installing the post script printer worked for me as well as many computers at our school on windows xp, running photoshop. actually i credit our resident tech dude with the solution.

do a google search on abobe post script printer install. download and install. don’t try to print anything with it and don’t make it your default printer. next time you install your xp update you should no longer have the assertion problem with either photoshop or image ready.

while you do have a good answer:

i realized that it’s reoccuring every time i install a windows xp update.

and

for some reason adobe doesn’t want to admit to the incompatibility with various operating systems

in one sentence you say it fails whenever you install an ms patch, and in the next you blame adobe. how do you figure that for an adobe problem?

the reason the printer driver fix works (as explained by the adobe engineers who sometimes come in here) is that some manufacturers drivers leave the cpu in an invalid state. the adobe postscript driver does not and that’s often given as a cure for some wierd issues.

do a google search on abobe post script printer install.

no need for that, it’s right in the adobe download area with all the other adobe updates.
