Preferences Box–How does it get unchecked?

In CS2 I check the HISTORY (and then choose CONCISE) so that when necessary I can see what has been done to an image. But every couple of months I will go to File/File Info/History only to find no information recorded. Then I go to Preferences and find the box is NOT checked.

Anybody know what is causing this setting to change?
