Hi,

Does anyone have an idea why my photoshop (6 as well V7) fails to keep running on my compaq presario. On my desktop computer i never have any problems with it but on the laptop it blows up the whole computer after a short while working on it. The Presario has 384Mb internal memory and a 2Ghz processor, so i guess the power isnt the problem. I can open large files but as soon as i try to do e.g. a selection , a filtering, levels or whatever what, the thing blows up.

pls help me

thx in advance
Charles

ps. im running windows 2000 (same as my desktop)

Charles,

First, zap your settings by holding down Control-Alt-Shift just after you start Photoshop. A dialog will come up to verify that this is what you want to do. You can retain some of your settings (color prefs, etc) by deleting the PS settings file, which is located in your windows application data folder.

If that doesn’t fix it, start by looking in your event log to see if anything unusual is happening. You may have a weird plugin installed, so temporarily remove all your plugins by renaming the plugins folder to plugins-OFF and see if you are stable.

If that doesn’t do it, perhaps you’re running afoul of video acceleration.

Go to your display properties and back off the slider that controls video acceleration. If that makes things more stable, look around for a newer version of the drivers for your video chip.

You should update DirectX as well:
