When trying to crop an image today, I got the error message "Scratch disks are full." Checking my scratch disk settings, I noticed I have only one scratch disk assigned: "Startup".

I tried changing the scratch disk setting to "C:/", then restarted the program for changes to take effect, but still go the same error message when trying to crop an image.

How can I purge my scratch disk(s)? I want to delete everything out of there to free up room, as I’ve never had this problem before.

Thanks for your advice!

Kurt,

The most common cause for this problem is not setting the units when you crop and then attempting to crop to, say, 800 inches instead of 800 pixels! That attempts to create a *huge* scratch file and so you get the error message.

Photoshop should delete any old scratch files that have been left around next time you start it, but to free up some space do a drive-wide search for *.tmp and delete all you find.

Look at the option bar for the crop tool.

Make sure the resolution and size constraint are correct
