Getting error message:

Could not initialize photoshop because the file is locked. Use the ‘properties’ command in the windows explorer to unlock the file. I am using Windows Vista 64 bit.
help please

Here’s an idea: right click on the file and use the ‘properties’ command in the windows explorer to unlock the file.

Thanks but there is no unlock in the properties……..

Perhaps it’s set to Read Only in the file properties?

Can you make a copy of the file, and open that.

(Also, try restarting the computer, then opening the file.)

Have you restored something off a CD-R lately?

Files that come from that media are Read Only by definition.

You do realize that PS is not officially supported under Vista, right? Add to that the fact that you’re using the 64 bit version and you might be looking at some problems.

There’s a knowlege base article on Photoshop with WinXP 64. Look around for it. It may help.

BTW, you haven’t even told us what version of Photoshop you’re using or how you installed Vista.

In general I would NOT trust a brand new Microsoft OS with an application as critical as Photoshop. Especially if I was using it to make a living.

my guess (since everyone’s guessing) is that the locked file is the preferences file.

well ya, especially as vista is locked down tighter than a [insert humorously inappropiate location here].

probably permissions with the PREFRENCES. 🙂

Have you tried a right click on the icon and "Run as administrator"? It worked for me.

What version of Photoshop? did you use PSICONS.dll?
