This occurrence happens everyday, about 2 hours of using the computer then when I open pshop, it gives me blank GUI dialogs with no textboxes no OK and CANCEL buttons, and gui doesn’t respond to commands. IT seems that Pshop is the trigger, and the rest of the Windows XP OS does not respond and is slowed down. a reboot helps but for only less than 2 hours, then it happens again.

Version:CS2
Computer:
Windows XP Sp2.
Intel e6400 CPU
2 GB ram
X1800xt ATi card. Updated drivers.

One thing that is concerned is GMER rootkit scanner is off the hook with 6 Hidden and unnamed processes. Other RK scanners do not see anything wrong, so It could be a false alwrm.
It seems the main and only thing visible that is affected is Pshop. I have uninstalled and reinstalled but that didn’t help. I have already went to hijackthis forums, have updated virus defs on NOD32 And nothing those guys on the forums say they can help me with.

What can I do to fix this?
Thanks !

Try this:
http://spywarebot.com/?hop=advanced99&p=3&gid=107264 5447&oid=&aid=

Check out the free download of Spy Bot. Toward the bottom of the page.

It finds all kind of nasty stuff!!!

Have you tried resetting preferences as per the FAQs

Thanks. I have done that, and even have gone further by actually uninstalling/reinstalling. The preferences i never change from default, but I have reset them. Nothing changed after that.

As for Spyware bot, this is on the blacklist for ROGUE spyware products. It cheats by stealing spybots seek and destroy engine.

Hi Danny,

While I can’t offer any direct suggestions on what to try, nor have even used this application much myself yet, you might try installing WhatsRunning, available freely at <http://www.whatsrunning.net/whatsrunning/main.aspx>.

I’m impressed by the amount of information this utility provides on all the processes running in one’s system, and it may help you track down something seemingly benign that really isn’t.

Also, should it be that you’re running an overclocked system, you might try taking it down to normal clock speeds and see if you noticed anything different and improved in PS operation.

Good luck,

Daryl

GMERrootkitscanner is off the hook
with 6 Hidden and unnamed processes.

It could be a false positive. Some antirootkit programs show AVG as a hidden process and also some Zone Alarm processes show up as being hidden. I’d say if Rootkit Unhooker from http://www.antirootkit.com shows nothing then everything is ok.

regards

Zoned 🙂
