Howdy,

I’m using Windows Vista Ulitmate Retail x86 (64-bit) version and I am also running Photoshop CS3 Beta.

The problem I have at the moment is that Adobe Type Manager will not install on a 64bit OS, so I am unable to use the many .pfm (PSFONTS) I have… is there another way to get Photoshop to use the fonts without the use of ATM? Or is ATM required for this? If so, anyone got around it in a 64bit OS?

I ONLY use the fonts in photoshop and thats it, so if ATM does other stuff I don’t use it.

Any help will be appreciated!

Just install the fonts. Vista (and for that matter XP and 2K) does not require a font manager to install Type 1 or OpenType fonts.

Hmm I tried that yesterday, and Vista crashed on me and didn’t like it at all.

I just tried again and it worked, and the pfb ares in there and labelled correctly… but Photoshop doesn’t seem to see them? I’ll try a reboot.

Have you checked the entire font list in Photoshop?

You didn’t upgrade Windows, did you?

Hi Rob,

In PSCS3 I clicked on the type tool and checked every font on the list, theres none of my Type 1 fonts on there.

I never upgrade windows, clean install all the time… is that what you mean? I’m running Vista Ultimate x86 (64bit) aswell btw… that might make a difference?

Do the fonts show up anywhere else?

Just checked in homesite and Thunderbird and yep they are appearing there and display fine too.

So its just Photoshop by the looks of it?

delete the font list file. exit all adobe apps, search for Adobe*.lst and delete those. the file will be recreated next time ps starts.

I’d also check in the CS3 Beta forum to see if there are any known issues with Vista.

Thomas Phinney, Program Manager, Fonts & SING Technolgies, Adobe Systems provided information about type in Windows Visa, including the future of Type 1 fonts, in a thread from the Adobe Type > ATM and type Windows

Mr. Phinney’s comments include links to his blog on type, etc. for additional information.

The short answer is that ATM is also not usable on 32 bit VISTA systems either, and going forward, OpenType with its same font files for MAC and PC and other enhanced features is the replacement for Type 1 fonts for universal professional use.

I’m not happy myself as I continue to use ATM Deluxe 4.1 which manages my hundreds of Type 1 fonts on Windows XP….but it that progress…I think.
