I have to tell someone – Photoshop has to be the worst piece of Software in my computer as far as User Friendly goes… It’s not going back in it’s box tho’ until this is done…

I would like to select a piece of .jpg, copy it, and paste it a couple of inches over there… (five days ago I was trying to do this)

I use the Rectangular Marquee Tool to select the area and I just keep getting the message: "Warning! No pixels are more than 50% selected. The selection edges will not be visible."

Should someone be able to point me in any kind of direction I would be eternally grateful.

Many thanks.

There’s too much you can do with the software for it to be user friendly….without reading the manual at least.

Turn off the feathering in the options menu at the top of the screen.

William, get a copy of the Photoshop Bible by Deke McClelland. It is the best investment you could make and will help you understand PS and how it works.

PS is a professional grade application designed to by used by industry professionals. As such, it is very complex, and by nature can not be as user friendly as a program designed for amateurs such as greeting card progams and the stuff that comes with your digital camera. Photoshop LE and Elements both are more user friendly, and a heck of a lot less expensive to boot. Of course, I suspect from you comment about it coming off your system implies that you didn’t buy the program anyway.

Hmmm… I don’t think it’s feathering. I usually get that message when I’ve mistakenly subtracted one selection from another resulting in a deselection.

I presume that you have no layers. Are you saying that when you draw a rectangular marquee, you get the warning?

You’re just clicking on the rectangular marquee tool and click and drag over an area right?

Since it sounds like you’re new to photoshop, it’s probably something butt simple, so if you want it solved, let’s go through the steps.

Peace,
Tony

nope. Ed got it right first time. The feathering was set at 50 px so I guessed at 1 px and it did the trick.

I can now report that the job is done and dusted and I can now get back to my Coding and Software Development Environment.

Thanks all. 10 minute job. Have a nice Weekend. lol.

When I forget to turn off feathering, that’s when I get it. That’s why that was the first thing that came to mind. 🙂

Well, when I set Feathering to 50 in the options bar and draw a rectangular marquee, I don’t get the message. <shrug>

I guess it depends on the size of the marquee you are drawing – if you set feathering to 50 px, and draw a 30px marquee, that’d do it.

And William, unless you want feathering on for a specific reason, your selections will be more accurate if you set it to 0px.

Peace,
Tony

Yep, I was selecting maybe 6 or 7 pixels wide.. just inside the edge of a Roy Lichtenstein painting that was a bit frayed, then dragging it over the few pixels to paste at the edge…

I had it set to 1 pixel because ‘turning it off’ seemed to be a bit simplistic to me.. I looked how to turn it off for the 10 minute limit but.. waaatt..?? I mean, i’m only a humble Programmer so what do i know..??? rofl. Nobody told me i had to be an Industry Professional to use the Software i bought for my Daughter’s Birthday.. if i laugh any more i’ll be awake all weekend… please stop..!!
