When I rearrange the sequence of images in a folder from within Bridge, and then re-create my Web Gallery, the new sort order is not recognized. The original order of the images is retained. I have deleted all files in the destination folder, have deleted the 2 hidden cache files, have changed the destination directory from within web gallery, have used a different web gallery style……nothing works–the original sort order of the images is retained in the final web gallery that is created. Any suggestions? <br><br>John <br><br>Photoshop CS2 <br>

John, <br><br>After discussing how I build galleries with you via e-mail, where I’ve normally used ThumbsPlus and have not used Brige enough to know its features, I just built a Web Gallery with Bridge. It worked just fine, even when I rearranged the images and rebuilt the gallery to the new image order. I like it! <br><br>However, what I also saw, and what may be the source of your troubles, is that any manual rearrangment of files caused the Manual Sort option to be indicated in the Sort menu. When you close and reopen Bridge, the manual sort defaults back to Ascending (or possibly whatever other non-manual sort option you use). So, the images and their order are not tagged and maintained within the folder with any info used by Photsohop when generating a web gallery. To generate a gallery with the current arrangement you have in Bridge, it appears that you must launch Web Gallery from Bridge, via the Tools &gt; Photoshop &gt; Web Gallery menu option. Once in the Web Gallery dialog, you will see the Source indicating that it is using the files selected in Bridge, and the ordering is maintained when the Web Gallery is generated. If you launch Web Gallery directly from PS, the Source option is not available to use the files selected from Bridge, so the order is not retained. <br><br>Regards, <br><br>Daryl

Daryl,

I can’t begin to thank you enough – even the Help Desk at NAPP has not been able to help.

I was launching from within Bridge HOWEVER in the dialog box for the source I just assumed that "selected files" couldn’t be correct because I had not selected any files, therefore I changed it to Folder and then browsed to the folder that held the images. I still am not sure why that doesn’t work, but leaving the source as "selected files" solved my problem.

Thank you again!

John,

I’m not entirely sure why that doesn’t work either, as I saw another post that mentioned an XML file that gets built when you sort a folder of images in Bridge, and you’d think that file would be used to maintain the sort order as well as hand it off to the Web Gallery for use. Apparently not.

Not sure what your comment says about the NAPP help desk other than they must still have a lot to learn themselves. Perhaps with that being the first time I’ve ever used Bridge to arrange images and launch the Web Gallery builder, I just noticed the details.

Glad to have helped,

Daryl

Hmmm….I’m not sure what happened that went wrong, but today I find that a manual sort of images in Bridge is retained even after closing and reopening Bridge and Photoshop. That is more the behavior I’d expect to see and there is a hidden .BridgeSort XML file that specifies the order. Perhaps I deleted that the other day, although I don’t know how that would have happened.

Here’s what the NAPP Help Desk sent me shortly after your email helped me solve the problem. If something isn’t working correctly in Photoshop and/or Bridge, you can try resetting your preferences. To do this, hold down Ctrl-Alt-Shift when starting Photoshop (or Bridge) until you get a prompt to delete your preferences. Make sure you back up any custom preferences first in order to restore them afterward.

If that doesn’t fix it for you, try using these following steps:

-In Bridge, navigate to the folder and rearrange the images.

-Go to Edit > Select All.

-Go to Tools > Photoshop > Web Gallery.

-Use the Simple – Thumbnail Table style with the default options.

-Make sure the source is "Selected Images from Bridge".

-Choose a new folder for the destination, just to ensure that none of the old files are being retained.

-Click OK.

These are the steps I used to get a web gallery with the same image order as in Bridge. Let me know if you’re still having trouble after trying both of these methods

John,

No, tonight I’m having no trouble at all and I never had to reset my preferences. I don’t recall what I did the other night that might’ve differed and caused the sort order to be lost upon exiting Bridge, but something must have corrupted the XML file or else deleted it.

Resetting the preferences seems to be a cure-all for so many things that I can’t help but wonder why that is. But, it is what it is.
