The program stays open maybe 5 minutes, allows me to get a couple of jpgs resized and saved, then it closes suddenly. There doesn’t seem to be any specific reason.

I’m going in a deleting the Preferences (in fact, deleted all the psp). Uninstalled and reinstalled, run all kinds of virus, worm, adware and security checks. This problem first started when I would be working in Illustrator, now it’s moved to Photoshop.

I have a brand new computer (01/03/07), 1 GM RAM. I used this same software on an older computer until Jan, but only 512 RAM. It doesn’t matter whether I’ve only got Photoshop open, or whether I’ve got other things open.

I need help! And I’m not particularly tech savvy, so detailed instructions would be appreciated.

By the way…didn’t have a problem running Photoshop on the older and slower computer.

The symptoms you describe are very probably faulty RAM.
Photoshop is more sensitive to bad memory than some other programs, and the fact this is a new, unknown computer is further indication.

Since it’s new I’d advise you report it as faulty to your vendor, and suggest they test the RAM for you.

Sounds like RAM, or potentially overheating problems.

Get a copy of memtest86+ ( <http://www.memtest.org/> ) and test your RAM yourself. No need to pay big $$$ for them to do a less thorough test than you can do yourself. 🙂
