Hello, I’m considering buying a new laptop, most likely a Mac, but I have a few questions about my current version of Photoshop I’d like to ask (I couldn’t find answers in the FAQ).

All the computers I’ve looked at so far have the new Windows Vista installed – will my Photoshop 7.0.1 work with this? If not, will an upgrade work? As far as I know, it works with Windows XP but I don’t know if it will work with Vista.

Also, if I decide to get a Mac (versus Alienware or other type of notebook), would I need to purchase a different version of Photoshop specifically for Mac?

I would list my system requirements as of NOW if I knew what I were going to be getting – this is another issue. The computer I work on now is used by 3 other people, so I don’t know how much space I’ll need (RAM and hard drive) for my own laptop which will be equipped with Photoshop, Macromedia Studio MX, a Wacom Tablet (Intuos 2 6×8), etc. It also needs to last me at least 5 years. So I guess my second question is: what should I be looking for?

Please help, Thank you for your time…and sorry for so many questions!

I believe Photoshop 7 should work on Vista. CS2 and CS3 ran well on my beta versions of Vista. However there is a serious lack of Vista drivers for printers and scanners so be aware of this issue. The Adobe raw converter for PS7 is extremely limited as well.
Currently there is no version of Photoshop commercially available that runs natively on the Mactel but the program will run via a software kludge built into the Mactel OS.
Adobe released a beta version of CS3, a great product, that will run natively on the Mactel OS but only for thirty days if you do not have a valid serial number for a copy of CS2.
You have to decide about Apple or Windows–Photoshop is the same product regardless of OS. Those who believe in the unverifiable will swear differently. And if you run any version of Photoshop on a laptop it is, in my experience, sort of crippleware anyway.
