hi :: i am trying to make a photomontage of 2 images look more real. the background shot is of a hallway with some very interesting shadows ( layer named ‘background’) . the shot i have introduced is a model lying on her side (layer named body).i have found a way of adding the shadows of the background picture of the hallway onto the (montage) model:(i copied the section of the picture whose shadows i wanted over my model’s body, and pasted it onto its own layer. i selected the layer and did a drop shadow; i then converted the drop shadow into a layer and dropped the original layer)- the problem is the shadow falls on the model in the same way that it falls on the floor of the background picture-flat and straight. how can i make the shadows account for the curves and angles of the model?
help?

Hi there!

I’m not sure if you are still having a problem with creating shadows, but I just wanted to share one of my videos with you that involves crating some shadows.

You might be able to apply the technique to your composite.

Other than my vid I can tell you that when creating this shadow on the body, try to simply follow the contours of his/her shape.

If the model already has some shadow parts casted on itself, try to keep a match bewteen those "self-shadow" and the shadows you are creating yourself, at the places where the model touches the surface he/she is lying on. Otherwise he/she will appear to be floating.

Best of luck

Oops.. accidentally send it before writing finished!

The vid is 17 Mb and lasts 7 mins and 30 secs. It uses DivX.
