It’s an age old question so forgive me…

Short of buying a new cpu/mainboard, which of these would be the best performance upgrade tweak.

1: Trade out my Main drive (7200rpm) to 10000rpm drive

2: increase ram from 2gb to 3gb

3: trade out my 128mb videocard to a 256mb card (buying a Dell ultra 24" widescreen monitor soon.)

4: A RAID 1 drive setup

5: Anything else?

system:
XP home
Pentium D 3.4ghz
Nvidia G-Force fx 5200 128mb videocard
2gb ram
2 Seagate 300gb sata drives
CS2

The video card will not improve Photoshop’s performance. It will improve 3D apps’ performance though

I’d boost the RAM first

RAID 1 wont’t do anything either. If you’re working on very large files a RAID 0 setup will help.

Memory is the first thing, but be sure to set Windows to allow Photoshop to use addressing out to 3GB. See the following article:

It sounds like XP Home won’t address more than 2gb of RAM for programs. Is this true?

Correct — the /3GB switch does nothing for XPH.
