I have an HP OfficeJet G85 and a Gateway EV700 monitor, using Photoshop CS2. Whenever I try to print pictures, the colors don’t print out like they look on the screen. I understand that you can change settings to match the color, but I am not sure what to change. What are the best settings to use? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Nicole

Hi Nicole,

You are not alone. Most people do not know the steps required to assure consistent color from acquisition to monitor to printer.

Of utmost importance, your monitor must be properly calibrated. If you’re using Windows, you must disable color management for the printer using the Windows Control Panel for Printers & Faxes.

You then have to set up the color management options in Photoshop CS or Photoshop Elements.

Next, you’ll need to calibrate your printer using a standard "TEST IMAGE" that you can download from the Internet. If the printer has any "default options" for color correcting that are activated, you must disable them.

You’ll probably go through 5 or 6 sheets of printing paper when tweaking your printer’s settings, but once you nail down the color you’ll be very confident of your results when judging your images on screen.

All the best,
