restore color to aged red photo

I have a very nice photo that is old and has turned red or rust probably due to oxidation. I would like to restore it to a black white gray which I presume it looked like before it changed. I know this is an option on those machines in drug stores. I have Photoshop 6 and I have CS2. I work with XP on a PC. The photo is presently scanned into my computer.
