I’m running PS CS2, and I’m trying to use a filter on some text (the Wind filter to be more precise). After i type the text I want, I click on the check-mark, and then I go into Filters. I’d say 50% of the Filter categories & sub-selections are greyed out. I can’t use them. Is there something i’m not doing right here? I remember in other versions of PS, i had no trouble doing this. Is this a feature that has changed?

Thanks in advance.

Are you in 8bit mode?

You need to rasterize the type before you can run a filter on it.

Additionally, many filters only work on 8bit RGB images.

Well, i got that to work…. but, now when i try to go into Select/Modify, Modify is greyed out. Is there another way to get into "Select/Modify/Contract"?

Do you have an active Selection running? Won’t work woithout it.

What exactly are you trying to do? It may be that Select>Modify is NOT what you want.

Here’s the problem, where they say:

"Take the original text layer and use Ctrl+Click to highlight it."

They are asking you to make a selection. But in CS2 this has changed. Ctrl-click on the thumbnail Image in the Layers palette to get the selection. Their use of the word "highlight" is misleading.
