Hi, to everyone and thank you for your responses.I have been gone all week and not able to log on to the net.It has been a while since i had posted a pic on here and it had changed sorry for the problems there. I hope to get time today to play around with this pic using the info that you gave me to see which works for me or for the pic. He is a natural strawberry blonde and this is the second time that i have taken his pic.His mom does not like to admit that he is as red as he is.In the summer his hair is blonde but gets red in winter.I know that wen mom sees these pics she is going to comment on how red his hair is.I think that it looks a little more red in pics also but not much so if i think that then i know mom will.
It is the red in the hair and the scalp that i would like to lighten or make more blonde. thank you all and i will get back with you after attemping to fix the pic. thanks

nOTHING PERSONAL to anyone and i’m appriciate ideas of other and haved learned a lot but i have decitded to leave the pics as is. After all it is the real color, the mom did not ask me to take some red out of this photo shoot but did last year. She has not seen these pics so i’m going to leave as is unless she request something different. I tried some of the adjustment layers but it also took color out of the skin and he is pale to start with so that didnt work well without selecting only the hair.
I think mom wants something that she does not have.
Thanks to everyone.

If she has such a lovely child and is not happy with hair color, then she is an idiot and should get a life. as far as adjustment layers go, you do realize how simple it is to paint away anything you want to remain untouched using a mask? it takes about 10 seconds on a shot like that.

Donald,I created a new layer and then used the lasso tool to select the hair and then feather about 2 and then color adjustment.
How would u do it ?
thanks

I rarely lasso anything anymore to be honest. its just my way of operating. as an example, if i had a photo that had an area i wanted to darken,i would hit control-j to make a dupe layer, then set it to multiply mode. as soon as i do that i hit the layer mask icon to hide any darkening from the multiply mode, and then simply hit the b-key for brush, and i start painting in whatever amount of opacity i want anywhere in the photo. hitting the x-key will switch to paint away any darkening if i go to far. using soft edged brushes makes it seamless, and you waste no time with selecting.it is childs play once you get the nack of it.
