In Photoshop CS there were shortcuts to increase and decrease brush size ("." and ","). In the CS3 Mac Version they still are there. However, NOT in CS2 Win Version. Why not? The same "." and "," are free to use. I cannot make custom keyboard shortcuts to linearly increase or decrease brush size because you need to use mouse (or pen) dracking to do the task. Why have the sortcuts taken away. They are the ones you frequently use.

What nationality is your keyboard?

For me [ and ] work fine.

Hi, I’m having a similar problem with a whole host of shortcut. (Delete, -, =, [, ], are just a few) I too think it’s something to do with the fact that I am using a British keyboard not American one. However there might be a slight chance that there is someone else in Britain using Photoshop so it must be me who is doing something wrong.

I can’t believe that I have to change my input settings to US.

Is there anything else that I need to do?

I’m on a a UK keyboard set to UK in the Windows options.

Everything in PS works as advertised.

That’d be John and Me 🙂

We’re both on UK keyboards.

Try resetting your Preferences as detailed in the FAQs.

I had a feeling there may be a couple of you guys out there.

I’ve tried resetting my preferences but it makes no difference.

It really is a bit frustrating, basically all of the keys right of my "return" button dont’ work as they should as well as a few others.

Has anyone else had problems with keyboard settings and found a way to fix it?

Thanks

Have you checked the settings in Windows Control Panel?

You could also try updating the keyboard drivers.

Another troubleshooting possibility is to borrow a keyboard and try that.

As for the Windows Control Panel I have made everything I can see "english (UK)". There is no driver update for my keyboard either. It is a completely up to date logitech. Anyway I have a beat up old faithful that has the same problem.

For every other program the keyboard works just as you would expect.

I’m not sure this is the best place to say this but this is a rather ironic situation I find myself in.

For a short while I actually had a dodgy copy installed which worked fine. (I know it is wrong, I won’t do it again, promise). Then, as I saw the error of my ways, I bought a properly licenced version and now I have problems with that!

Honesty is the best policy Duncan, good for you.

JAILER! THROW AWAY THE KEYS!! 🙂

Might any of those other programs be hi-jacking the shortcut combinations?

I don’t think so, I’m only using office, explorer and photoshop.

The thing is that if I go in and change the keyboard shortcuts (my only workaround so far) it thinks that the buttons I’m pressing are completely different from the ones that I am actually using.

For example left arrow brings % right arrow ‘ up arrow & and down arrow (

Delete is . Insert is – and so on.

It’s not just the shortcuts either. If I use the type tool then the problem is the same.

I’ve changed a few of the shortcuts to the new keys but I’m newish to photoshop and I’m sure that there are a hell of a lot of shortcuts that I’m going to learn but not be able to use.

Incidentally I feel that I might need to apologise to Kari for hijacking this thread.

Sorry

When you deleted the Prefs, did you just use the three fingered salute?

Might be worth wading in to Application Data>Adobe>Photoshop>9.0 and deleting (or renaming) the entire "Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings" folder.

Ummm, I don’t have one to delete

I get as far as application data\adobe

then I have folders for acrobat, AWScommonUI.dll, Updater and Updater5

There is no Photoshop folder in the application data root.

Aha, at last something different from your setup.

Do you have your Windows Explorer options set to display hidden files and folders, Duncan?

Ah, there it is. Bad folder hiding from me!

Unfortunately deleting this folder made no difference. The buttons still don’t work.
