The patch tool does not act as described in the Photoshop CS Help text. Following the instructions (carefully rechecked several times) in the Help section, I attempted to patch an area in a photo. After making the selection in the area to be repaired, (source selected) I moved the selected area to the area containing pixels for the patch. The screen showed the apparent results of the patch as I moved the selection with the mouse button held down. However, as soon as I released the mouse button, the screen reverted to the condition it was before I made the move, no change occurring in the area that was to be patched. I tried this in the alternative method, selecting in the corrective area (destination selected), and the same result occurred, apparent patching while the mouse buton was held down, but reversion to the original when the button was released.
Presumably, I’ve missed some key action, or am otherwise doing something wrong. What could it be?

Howard, in the Options Bar for the Patch tool, make sure the Transparent box is not checked.
