I tried many ways to make the skin complexion of this man brighter, but I can’t. I adjusted the brightness, the levels, contrasts, but i cannot make his skin brighter. 🙁 Need help, is this possible with photoshop? 🙁

I browsed the forums, and other tutorial sites, but I found none. 🙁

These are the images, 1 is a smaller resolution, and the other one is the full resolution of the image:

Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂

You’re not trying to make him look as if he was white are you? For that you’d need the Michael Jackson plug-in!

I assume you mean you just need to lighten the face a little without losing detail in the shirt?

That being the case, just make a selection of the face, feather it, then create a Levels adjustment layers based in the selection. You’ll probably only need to use the middle slider to brighten the skin tones – but not too much adjustment is required for the result to be correct.

You’re not going to make him look Caucasian, but fairly simple Curves adjustments will ‘brighten’ the skin tones quite easily.

Create a Curves adjustment layer. In the composite channel, move the centre of the curve up and marginally left to give Input about 120 for an output of, say, 140.

Now in the Green channel, pull the centre of the curve down marginally to just warm up the image slightly.

so it’s impossible to make him white as michael jackson? 🙁 I need to change it’s skin color to a different one, but I think it’s not possible in photoshop. I’ll try ur tips 🙂

"You’re not trying to make him look as if he was white are you?"

Exactly, I want to change it’s skin complexion. But I can’t and I think it’s impossible. The only thing possible is to make his skin brighter, but changing the skin color to a caucasian like skin tone is impossible 🙁

The selective Levels adjustment that Chris suggested is best, but if you want a quick fix and don’t mind the hair lightening up as well, try the Image>Adjustments>Shadow/Highlight option. The default settings make your image look pretty good.

ok let me try it. I need to replace the skin color, what I made is like this one, I think I made the wrong move 🙁

Is there any other way to change it’s skin tone? Not just make it brighter, but totally change it 🙁

The image below is just a quick run at it. The selections aren’t that great, but you can see where I was headed. I’ll leave it to you to do the finer work. As Chris said, I’d be careful about making the guy’s skin look too European.

Essentially, I created a mask for the face, and used a curves adjustment layer and a color balance adjustment layer.

Then I made a mask for the shirt and pulled most of the color out of it with a Hue/Sat adjustment layer.

The image was quite noisy so I ran Noise Ninja on it as well, but again, I didn’t spend a lot of time tweaking the settings.

Of course it can be done.

But "changing the skin tone" can mean a lot of things. You’d have to be very descriptive about exactly how you want to change it.

if I want to change like this one:

would it be possible, I think it’s a lot of hard work to change the skin tone. Or is there a quick way? 🙂

Easy and quick are relative terms. Obviously, they mean different things to you and to me.

Again, I’d be VERY careful about trying to make the guy’s skin tone unnatural to his heritage. The brain knows it just looks wrong, somehow, like making a crocodile reddish instead of it’s normal color.

Plus, the photo is noisy, and the more you lighten it up, the more the noise is going to show. This then means you’d have to work at trying to clean up the noise.

Correct and balance, yes. Radically altering it…well you’ve made me curious about why a correction along the lines of what I’ve already done isn’t in the area of what you’d want.

I’m not saying there aren’t good reasons, I just find it odd.

What you did is what I really want actually. I’m just curious about photoshop if it can alter a human skin tone. 🙂 Because I tried it many times but I failed… 🙁

Okay JL, try this. Make a copy layer of the original. Now select the area to be "changed", then copy and paste it into a new layer. Label that layer light skin. Then click on all the eye icons below that layer, turning them off. Click on Image/adjustments/brightness and contrast. Raise both fairly high and to a point where you don’t lose too much detail. Then click on the brush tool and in the tool menu, select "Color" instead of "Normal". Set the color at a very red pink and then piant the selection. It will look very weird but only for a moment. Then in the layer window, select "Soft Light" for the layer instead of the default "Normal." Turn the eye icons back on and you will see some surprizing results. you may have to lighten and/or adjust the image below the Light Skin layer but if you play with it, I’m sure you’ll find something you’ll like. Here is my shot at it. It took longer to write this than do the pic.
