Hello,

I just installed PhotoShop 9 CS2 on Windows XP SP2. Problem is after opening a photo, PS locks. I can’t click on anything, without getting a beep error, like there was a dialog open and I’m trying to click outside of it. I also tried File -> New. When it creates the window with the blank new document, it locks again. The only way to get out is killing the application. Any ideas?

Thx,

Erasmo

Erasmo,

How much RAM.?
Hard drive/scratch disc setup?
How much RAM for PS? The answer is usually "more". How many H/Ds, scratch discs? Ideally, PS should be installed on one drive, C for example and the scratch discs should be on other physical drives but partitions will suffice. You should also never let your disc{s}exceed 80-85% of unfragmented space.
Also, check the event log in Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Event Viewer>Application. and look for red circles with white x’s.Click on them and see what error was recorded. You can Google for any error number listed.

Hello Toobi,

It’s a brand new Leonovo Thinkpad dual core with 2G RAM and 120G SATA drive. I have installed it on a VMware VM with 512Mb of ram (I run it from a different computer) and it runs OK. I have to believe there’s something related to the ThinkPad. Any ideas?

Regards,

Erasmo.

Hello Erasmo,
How is the memory odered in the Thinkpad? 2 * 1Gb, 1 * 2Gb or something else?
If 2 * 1Gb is it possible for you to remove a stick and try it with just 1Gb?
If it works, remove and try it with the other stick. If one is faulty or not seated correctly, it could account for what you are experiencing. Also do you have all the updates for PS, especially the one that addresses dual core processor problems?

Toobi,

I just downloaded the latest updates from Adobe (Help -> Updates…). Problem remains.

I’m not sure if I can remove the memory banks. They appear to be underneath the keyboard. I will have to check the Leonovo website. Will let you know.

If you happen to have any other ideas, please let me know.

Best Regards,

Erasmo.

The memory should be accessable via a removable panel on the underside of the PC, it will be secured by at least one small screw.
