PSU is a Coolermaster eXtreme Power 650W PSU – ATX 12V V2.01 120mm Fan 20+4pin Motherboard under heavy load wants about 500W apparently so I picked something to give a bit extra. Photoshop running as a lone application shouldn’t put that much of a strain on this kind of system I wouldnt have thought. My second machine is about two thirds the spec of this and runs fine.
Cheers,
By the way, it’s only the image itself that flickers, the main aplication window etc is OK. Happens on all formats too, jpg, psd etc.

It’s no doubt related to the SLI board & settings. They require a lot of juice or the system becomes unstable at times- hence the question as to power supply.

I’d check the SLI hardware and bios settings first. If you have another PCI video card around- try installing that, run in non-SLI (second video output disabled under SLI) mode with a monitor connected to each card.

Thanks for that Michael,
I was thinking of running duel cards anyway as the card I chose was pretty inexpensive (£65 I’m not a gamer) and as the total build cost for parts was in excess of £1500 it’s a small(ish) price to pay to get the set-up running in a manner it deserves to.
I’ll get somebody who’s more comfortable than I messing about with bios and such to check that out first though, I’m not that clever under the bonnet.
Many thanks for your promp responses to my query, I realy do appreciate them. And if you have any further advice this will be equally appreciated.
Thanks again,
Gene Stevo.

Hi,
I just ran across this post and was wondering if there were any solutions? I have a similar issue – but only when I’m using a dual monitor setup. I’m running Photoshop 7 on a dual-core Intel 1.66GHz processor laptop with a gig of ram and an Intel 945GM video card. Without an extra monitor plugged in, PS runs fine but if there are two monitors then the image in PS begins to flicker/flash. This only happens when PS is active (when i’m doing something in PS) and it doesn’t matter which monitor its being displayed on. Also, this flickering only happens to the document and not the workspace.
I’ve tried everything i can think of: adjusting resolutions, refresh rate, update bios and drivers (for the video card), tried a different monitor and ran a diagnostic test… Everything checks out ok but i still have the problem. Also, this only happens with Photoshop and Photoshop Elements, ImageReady seems fine and every other program is fine…
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Justin

All,
I have moved my question to a new topic: <http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bc39a28> after realizing the folly of adding a new question to an old topic! 🙂

Thanks for looking.

Are you running a Microsoft mouse with Intellipoint software running in the background (ipoint.exe) if so disable ipoint.exe and it should fix the problem.See this post for more information.http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bc39a2 8
