Well it is clear that I have majorly screwed up by using 3rd party inks. Dumb, Dumb, Dumb. I have admitted as much to Canon and they’ve been decent in their response. They’ve recommended a new print head.

I feel I’m out of my league with you guys that have responded. I just don’t have the knowledge base about setting up printer and paper profiles.

Zack’s response about the small droplets certainly makes sense.

What printer profile should I be using?

How do I set up a paper profile?

Zack, I’ll scoot over to Qimage’s site and download their demo.

I don’t mind getting my ears boxed for a dumb error, but I gotta also get the true data so I won’t do a dumb thing again so any help on printer/paper profile setups will be gratefully received.

You should use the one that matches the particular paper you’re using. Actually, printer profile in this case is a bit misleading; it should be called paper profile. When you installed the i9900, several Canon paper profiles should have been automatically installed as well. They reside in C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Drivers\Color. The list and paper types are as follows:

File (Profile) name Paper

CNB5pCA0.icm Pro Paper
CNB5pCB0.icm Pro Paper 2
CNB5pEA0.icm Plus Paper
CNB5pDA0.icm Matte Paper
CNBJPRN2.icm Generic

How do I set up a paper profile?

I don’t know how to do it in Photoshop (someone else knowledgeable on the subject can help you out there) but in Qimage, there is a setting for the profile to use and provides the list from the available profiles on your computer.

I don’t think anyone here started out as a genius, especially me! When I first got the i9900, I had a hell of a time trying to get the prints to come out right and went through a LOT of paper during the trial and error period!
