William,
If you’re interested in saving an archive copy of the RAW, save the RAW file. The DNG is a second generation. It may or may not be comparable, but you only have one "negative."
It’s probably fine as a working file, but all Photoshop processes are non-destructive to the RAW file, so saving a copy as a DNG may not be necessary.
Also, the DNG converter is designed to batch process folders or directories of files, which may be quicker and easier than 1x1s.

Janet,
The TIF or PSD should be just as sharp as your RAW unless you’re resizing it, compressing it, or comparing it to a RAW file seen in a different software package that may have sharpened or tweaked the image without your knowledge.
If you’re just opening RAW and saving as PSD or TIFF without compression, it should be just as sharp.
JPG is always going to be less sharp than RAW because it is a format that is designed for compactness; it achieves that by throwing away some level of data when it compresses a file.

My Leica has only jpg, tif or dng file type options. I always save as dng. Not sure I can or should try to convert dng to raw. Any opinion on that?
On re-reading, I believe I cannot do better than to keep my dng as the archival copy (as I have been) and save to tif when editing.
