I’m doing a web site for my sign business and I have Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Fireworks (soon to have CS3).

I have a general question.

Should I use Photoshop or Fireworks (or both) to do my graphics? For example, Fireworks gives me lots of help in creating a rollover button whereas I’m assuming I must create several graphics in Photoshop to accomplish the same thing. Plus I wonder about how well other web specific functions such as slicing will work in Photoshop.

I would much prefer to work only in Photoshop mostly because my brain is on overload trying to learn all the different programs…

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

In Photoshop / ImageReady you can easily create layer-based rollovers; additional graphics are created automatically.
Slicing and animating also work fine.

However, if you are about having Fireworks CS3, why not use it as well? I believe it must co-operate with Photoshop not worse than ImageReady. You just create a layered graphic in PS and then instantly export it in FW with a keyboard shortcut…

Thank you Andrei!

I wasn’t sure how much Photoshop could do.

I believe that in CS3 the file sharing between programs such as Photoshop and Fireworks is improved and that (i think) you can open native photoshop files in fireworks.

Thanks again for the quick response.

Both.

PS has much better tool for working on photos and images. FW is far superior in rollovers (as you noted) and making drop down menus and a few other things.

Check out SiteGrinder (http://www.medialab.com/sitegrinder)

It’s a plug-in for Photoshop that converts Photoshop designs to working web sites. There is no slicing involved, it does buttons and menus better than either FW or ImageReady, plus it has support for converting styled Photoshop text to styled HTML and a lot more.

I helped write SiteGrinder. I think you’ll like it.

Thank you Chris!

I will definitely check out the web site. I saw your booth at Photoshop World but just didn’t get a chance to get a demo.

Thanks again,
Steve
