Whilst I can get around it – not urgent – I was wondering, as I often do, why it is that I don’t seem to be able to ‘Copy’ an item, such as an image in a layer, from a photoshop file and ‘Paste’ it into another piece of software such as Illustrator. Is it possible?

It seems an odd thing to not be able to do seeing as you can copy into Photoshop from almost anything and most other software I have seems to be quite happy with me tossing clipboard images around between them.

Any ideas or information?

First you need to make a selection around the pixels on the active layer – either select part or all of the layer with the selection tools or select all (ctrl+a) – the copy.

Not a good workflow, though. Save the file as PSD and place in Illustrator or InDesign.
