Hi to all Adobe Photoshop experts and fanatics alike!

I’m hoping that someone can generously help me with
my issue. I’d really appreciate it.

I’m trying to create images for my ebook cover.
When I extract an image to remove the background
itself — the end result is that I get an extracted image with a WHITE background. Which I don’t want.

For example, if I were trying to extract an image of a person’s body from a picture to remove the background. What I end up with is the extracted person — without the background — only now I get an extracted image with WHITE background.

The white background is NOT what I want on my ebook cover. The extracted person’s image is.

I use Photoshop 4.0 — Does anyone know how I can extract an image without the white background?

Thanks!

Photoshop 4 or Elements 4? a bit of a difference!
What format are you saving your image as? JPG will not support transparency, try GIF or PNG (if you are using PS 4, you could be out of luck with PNG)

I’m using Elements 4.

Does anyone know?

Thanks!

In PS (not familiar with Elements) you would need to rename the background layer as this layer does not support transparency untill you do. Just alt+double click on the layer icon to accept the default. Then you would save the image in a format that supports transparency.

After making the background into a layer (click on it twice and respond to dialogue, save it as a gif and denote white as transparent.
